My First Star At Night
Jared/Jensen, R, 1800 words. Follow-up to Don't Feel No Solitude. Jared wants to lose his virginity.

Jared's first love was named Zach. He was sweet and funny, almost painfully earnest--nothing like what Jared wants now. But Jeff had been alive then, and the colony was safe, and his parents had him over for dinner every week.

Jensen is nothing like Zach. The first time he met Jensen, he'd already known everything Captain Harris had to say about the Rangers--Minbari and human, working on the station, under the command of the Captain and Ambassador Misha--and he'd raised his eyebrows like Jared wasn't worth his time if that was all he had to say.

Jared didn't actually fall immediately and head-over-heels in love, but it didn't take long.

Dr. McCoy told him it was hopeless--Commander Ackles didn't have relationships, she said. Commander Ackles barely had friends.

But Jared liked him anyway. Something about him--not just his good looks, although he definitely had those--called out to Jared. He didn't really want some innocent kid, some nice boy who'd never lost anything. Jensen was cold and distant, but more than that, sharp and funny and amazing.

Jared was fascinated, and then Jared was in love, and it would have been the best thing in the world, except it was Jensen.

*

Jensen has some very cute but entirely misguided beliefs about Jared's virginity. Mostly, that Jared wants to keep on being a virgin now that they're together.

Jared is a virgin because he wants his first time to be with someone he loves. He doesn't care so much about the specifics--he doesn't need Jensen to buy him a nice dinner or anything.

Not that he's unhappy. Jared is so ridiculously happy he actually feels a little embarrassed about it. He pretty much lives in Jensen's quarters now, and he's managed to make them feel homier, mostly by bringing a lot of his stuff with him. He wakes up every morning wrapped around Jensen, who's grumpy and annoyed and adorable, and they kiss and cuddle a lot, even if Jared isn't actually having any sex.

It's been a month since they got back from Mars, and Jared thinks it's time to change that.

He tracks down Jensen on his way to lunch from C&C and drapes his arm over Jensen's shoulders. Given that Jensen's default walking speed is the same as most people's easy jog, it's really awkward, and looks like they're having some sort of important meeting, but Jared is used to it. He likes having his arm around Jensen. He's willing to look like a freak to get it.

"What do you want?" asks Jensen.

"To hang out with my favorite guy."

"Jared, I'm working. You know what work is, right?"

"I work. Also, you're on your way to lunch."

"Does your definition of work involve stalking me?"

Jared grins. "It's my job to know everything that happens on this station."

"Actually, that's my job. Your job is to--be a ranger," says Jensen.

"Slow down and talk to me."

"There's a war going on."

"And you getting to lunch on time won't actually make it end faster."

Jensen slows slightly and smiles indulgently. "You have five minutes."

"Do you have dinner plans?"

"Mess," says Jensen. "Like usual."

"Take the night off and eat with me," says Jared.

"Jared--"

"I know Lieutenant Buckley and Captain Harris can cover C&C for the night," says Jared. "I know if I tell Captain Harris I want you to take the night off and have dinner with me, she'll make you take the night off and mock you forever."

"I can't believe you're blackmailing me into having dinner with you."

"If you really don't want to, you don't have to. But I was gonna cook."

Jensen stares. "You cook?"

"You've had my cooking," Jared points out.

"Coffee doesn't count."

"Bacon, eggs--ringing any bells?"

"Wait. You cooked that? I thought you just gave them the ingredients at the mess."

Jared grins. As far as he's concerned, getting Jensen the fresh bacon-and-eggs breakfast was one of his most glorious moments ever. He doesn't think that's why Jensen loves him, but he definitely knows how to make an impression.

"Nope, got it and cooked it."

"I guess I could take the night off," says Jensen. Jared can practically see him drooling.

Jared leans down and kisses him. Jensen comes out of it smiling, and he shakes his head. "I do have work, you know."

"You always have work. I'm starting to think you don't like me," says Jared.

Jensen rolls his eyes. "Bye, Jared."

The best part of dating Jensen is that Jensen hates people. Jensen wouldn't even talk to him if he didn't like him. He never has to worry at all anymore.

Part of being a ranger is self-denial and living a spartan life, and Jared embraces that, he does.

Except everyone has to eat, right? And sometimes he sticks to the bare essentials, boring things, and he can. But he can also enjoy a really, really good meal sometimes. That doesn't make him a bad ranger. He just has an appreciation for a good steak. And he's fairly sure that Valen would have understood that he really, really wants to get laid.

A lot.

And he's heard the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, so Jared has a selection of foods that is probably going to make Jensen weep for joy.

And then, god-willing, have sex with him.

He's marinating the steaks when he hears someone outside his door.

"Uh," he calls. "Who is it?"

"Captain Harris."

"Enter!"

Captain Harris gives him a bright grin. "Hello, Jared, I--oh my god." She crosses his quarters in a few huge steps and stares down at the steaks. "You're sure you aren't interested in women?" she asks.

Jared laughs. "I think Ambassador Misha would kill me. And they're for Jensen."

"Of course they're for Jensen," says Captain Harris. She looks amused. "How did you pull it off?"

"I'm magical," says Jared. "What did you need?"

Captain Harris sighs. "What are you doing tomorrow?"

"Whatever you need me to be doing."

"Good," says Captain Harris. "Then be ready to leave at 0800."

Jared groans. "Couldn't it be 0900?"

"Jensen works at 0700."

Jared glares. "You are ruining my life."

"My fiance gets up an hour before that and does naked meditation," says Captain Harris. "You'll live."

"Will you get out so I can at least win Jensen's love with my masterful cooking?"

"You could give that steak to him raw and he'd love you," says Captain Harris. "And, you know, he loves you anyway."

"I know," says Jared smugly. "Now leave me alone."

"0800, remember," she says. "Have a good date, Jared."

Jared brings the stuff to Jensen's to finish cooking, because Jensen has a nicer table than him, and he wants to really surprise him. He's got the steaks staying warm in the oven and is just finishing off the potatoes when Jensen comes in.

"Hi," he says, all dimples.

"Holy shit," says Jensen. "Is that--"

"This is dinner. Potatoes, steaks, salad--" Jensen comes over and kisses him, hard and fast. "You like?" he asks, when Jensen pulls away.

"If you just told me you could do this, I would've fallen for you way sooner."

Jared wraps his arms around Jensen's waist and grins. "Maybe I wanted you to like me for me."

Jensen kisses him again and squirms free. "I'm changing. If you're not wearing your ranger stuff, I won't wear my uniform."

"Last time I tried to cook in my cape I set it on fire," says Jared. "I learned my lesson."

Jensen laughs. "Back in a minute."

"I could help you change," says Jared with a leer.

Jensen snorts. "Don't burn down my quarters, Padalecki." He frees himself and goes into his bedroom to change, and Jared gets the potatoes on the table and the steaks on their plates.

"I love you," says Jensen genuinely.

"I know, but it'd be nice if you didn't tell me that just because you like my food."

"Not just," says Jensen, looking away.

"I know," Jared says again, softer. "Wanna eat?"

"Yeah," says Jensen.

*

"There's dessert too," says Jared, when he and Jensen are curled on Jensen's bed, watching a vid.

Jensen groans. "You're trying to kill me."

"I'm nervous as hell," Jared admits.

"Why?"

"I have to leave at 0800 tomorrow, so I really want to have sex with you and have enough time to get a good night's sleep."

Jensen stares at him.

Jared swallows. "If you don't want to, or you're not ready, that's fine--but if you think I'm not ready, that's dumb. Because--I love you. A lot. And you're--" Jared sighs. "I'm really happy, but I would love to lose my virginity sometime."

Jensen looks at him. "You wining and dining me, Padalecki?"

"Is it working?"

"I thought you wanted to do this right," Jensen hedges.

Jared kisses him. "Are you saying I'm not?"

"I'm saying--" Jensen sighs and looks sidelong at Jared. "If I say I want you to be sure, it's just gonna sound dumb, right?"

"Yes. You know I'm sure, Jensen."

Jensen laughs, awkwardly. "Now I feel self-conscious."

"Doesn't have to be tonight," says Jared. "Just letting you know. I am so ready for sex."

Jensen snorts. "You're smooth, Jared."

"I made you steak. And there's pie. Never let it be said I am not awesome."

"I won't," says Jensen. He wraps his arms around Jared and settles against him. "Where are you going?"

"Wherever Captain Harris tells me to."

"I'll probably be overcome by lust when you get back," says Jensen mildly. "So expect sex then."

"Looking forward to it," says Jared, and smiles when he feels Jensen's fingers absently tracing over his stomach.

"Thanks for dinner," Jensen says.

"Don't mention it."

*

It must not even be 0700 when Jensen wakes Jared up with a kiss and a hand on his dick.

"Oh Jesus," says Jared.

"Morning," says Jensen.

"Thought you were--fuck--waiting til I got back," says Jared, wondering how it is possible for one hand to feel so much better than another.

"Realized I was gonna miss you," says Jensen, and then he moves down and puts his lips on Jared's dick.

"Oh god you're--fuck! How am I supposed to leave if--" he groans and gives up, just puts his arm over his face and tries not to embarrass himself by losing it in, like, a second.

Of course, he's got Jensen's mouth on his dick, so it definitely doesn't take long.

"Fuck," he breathes out, and Jensen looks incredibly smug as he comes back up to kiss Jared.

"Worth the wait?"

"Fuck," says Jared again, articulately.

"When you get back," says Jensen. "I have to go to work."

"I'm not going to be able to move by 0800."

"You'll find a way." He leans down and kisses Jared again. "See you when you get back."

"Yeah," says Jared. Then, regaining a little coherence, "Love you."

Jensen grins. "Love you too."
