A Voice Keeps Saying
J2, outsider (Colin Ford) POV, Percy Jackson AU (in that universe, not an actual retelling), 1600 words. Colin comes to Camp Half-Blood and finds out about the epic love of Jared and Jensen. Mentions of Danneel/Genevieve. Vaguely implied spoilers for the end of Percy Jackson, but probably you won't notice them.

I just felt like doing something short and fluffy, what of it.

"So, this is it," says Jensen.

Jensen is cool. There's really no other word for it. He came to Colin's school at the beginning of the year as a student teacher, and all the girls and even some of the boys fell totally in love with him. Colin didn't, he just couldn't help thinking that Jensen was awesome. He was funny and smart and helpful.

And he's apparently half-God. And Colin is too.

"This is it?" Colin asks, a little dubiously. It really is a camp, all rustic and outdoorsy with a bunch of kids playing a game of pick-up basketball.

"It's usually a little more combative," says Jensen, making a face. "Come on, I'll see if I can find--"

"Jensen!" someone shouts from the direction of the basketball game, and a tall guy extracts himself from the rest of the players, bounding over to give Jensen a wide grin. "Hi, you're back!"

"I'm back," Jensen agrees. He's flushing a little, trying not to look at the tall guy's bare chest. "How's it going, Jared?"

"Dude, it's been like six months!" says Jared. "That's all I get?" He wraps Jensen up in a huge hug, and Jensen pats his back awkwardly.

"Yeah, I missed you too," says Jensen delicately. He flails a little. "Seriously, put me down, dude. I need to find Danneel."

Jared's still grinning when he lets Jensen go. "Yeah? I can help find her! What do you need her for?"

"Jared, this is Colin Ford. Colin, this is Jared Padalecki. He's the head counselor for the Apollo cabin."

"Oh, hi!" says Jared, apparently noticing Colin for the first time. "I guess I should have realized Jensen would have someone with him. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood!" He glances at Jensen. "He hasn't been claimed yet?"

"He's not thirteen yet," says Jensen. "But I'm hoping now that he's here he will be."

"I think Danneel's in the cabins," says Jared, starting to lead them that way. He glances at Jensen. "You okay? There must have been some pretty heavy-duty monsters for you to bring him over now."

"I'm fine," says Jensen, a little brusquely. "Nothing a little nectar didn't cure."

Jared looks a little upset, but he lets it go quickly. "Well, I'm glad you're back."

"I'm not staying," Jensen hedges.

"Oh, come on," says Jared. "Where do you have to go? Misha won't have another job lined up for you yet?"

"Misha?" asks Colin. He feels like he walked in on a lover's quarrel, and he's looking forward to changing the subject.

"One of Chiron's friends," says Jensen, making a face. "A new instructor. Chiron's on a quest so--we've got Misha."

"He's awesome!" says Jared, laughing. "Don't be a hater, Jensen."

"You just like him because he gives you weed."

"I do not! Him giving me weed is one of many things I like about him."

"Children of Apollo," says Jensen, rolling his eyes. "You're all the same."

Jared's eyes light up. "Hey, Colin."

"Yeah?"

"Did Jensen ever tell you whose kid he was?"

"Jared," says Jensen warningly.

"No!" says Colin, perking up. "He kept dodging the question."

"Oh man, this is an easy one," says Jared, grinning wide. "Only one god has kids that pretty. Or, well, one goddess."

"Jared, I swear to Zeus--"

"Aphrodite," says Jared smugly. "Goddess of beauty." He slings his arm around Jensen's shoulder. "That's why he's so pretty."

"I hate you so much," says Jensen darkly.

"Jensen's back!" someone says, before Jared has a chance to respond.

"Jensen's back!" Jared agrees, turning to the red-headed girl who's coming over to meet them. "Colin Ford, Danneel Harris. Danneel's the head counselor of the Hermes cabin. She takes care of demigods who haven't been claimed yet, like you."

Danneel raises her eyebrows at Jared. "And I'm guessing you want me to take Colin on the tour."

Jared gives her shameless puppy-dog eyes. "He needs guidance. And Jensen needs to check in with Misha."

"Uh huh," says Danneel dryly. "I've got him. Go talk to Misha, Jensen."

"Thanks," says Jensen, with a smile for Danneel. He looks at Jared. "I guess you're coming."

"Duh!" says Jared, bouncing on the heels of his feet like an over-excited kid. "I want to hear all about what you were doing."

"I'll see you at the camp fire tonight, Colin," says Jensen, ruffling his hair. "Don't worry, Danneel's a pro, she'll take care of you." He looks over to Jared. "Come on, Sasquatch. I'll fill you in on the way."

"Okay, so," says Danneel, shaking her head fondly. "Welcome to Camp Half-Blood."

"Thanks," says Colin. He glances back at Jensen and Jared. "So, um, that's Jensen's boyfriend?"

Danneel laughs. "Not technically. Come on, let's walk and talk." She starts leading him through the cabins, pointing out which is for which god, until they're far enough away from Jensen and Jared there's no chance of being overheard. "Anyway," she says. "Jared got here when he was about your age, I guess, and Jensen was about my age. He was the head of the Aphrodite cabin back then, and Jared pretty much fell in love at first sight. And Jensen was used to it, because he's got some weird Aphrodite kid mojo that makes him really attractive to everyone."

"All the girls in my class had crushes on him," Colin mutters.

"Yeah, that's Jensen. It's just kind of what he does. He gets really embarrassed about it sometimes, it's funny. Anyway, Jared lives here all year round, but Jensen would just come for the summers, and every year Jensen came back and Jared would be older and taller and still totally in love with him, and Jensen would try to deny he felt the same. Which he totally does, by the way."

Colin snorts. "Yeah, obviously."

Danneel laughs. "I know, right? It's completely obvious to everyone. You're supposed to leave camp when you hit eighteen, and Jensen's found a way to keep working here, and everyone knows it's just because he's into Jared and doesn't want to stop seeing him."

"Oh," says Colin.

"So, anyway," says Danneel, grinning. "He'll be around for a few days 'taking care of you,'" she says, making exaggeratedly finger quotes. "And letting Jared flirt with him." She catches sight of his face and laughs. "Don't worry, he wants to look after you too. He really does worry. He just still thinks Jared is too young to date."

"Isn't Jared--sixteen?"

"Yeah. Jensen's an idiot."

"Okay," says Colin carefully.

"So, anyway, that's the Hera cabin," Danneel says, as if she'd never interrupted the tour. "Hera doesn't have any kids, so it's mostly just for show."

Colin nods, and tries to absorb everything. He figures he'll catch up.

*

After a few days at the Camp, Colin feels as if he has a pretty good idea of what's going on. He hasn't been claimed yet, but he gets to stay at the Hermes cabin, and they're all really friendly.

Jensen hasn't left yet, and he seems to spend most of his time pointedly not looking at Jared, who follows him around, and Jared's friends Danneel and Chad, who are--interesting. Colin hangs out with them because he still knows Jensen better than anyone else, and they're mostly nice to him. Well, except Chad. He's a son of Dionysus and generally shitty to everyone, according to Jared.

Anyway, Colin's doing pretty well, until Jared gets a quest.

Colin isn't actually there for it, but it sounds foreboding and scary and people are going to die, and Colin doesn't know Jared very well yet, but he doesn't want him to die.

And Jensen wants it even less.

Colin finds him sitting in the woods, throwing knives at a tree with terrifying accuracy.

"Danneel told me to find you."

"Of course she did," says Jensen grumpily. "She would."

"But you're not okay," says Colin, sitting down next to him.

"I've been on a quest," says Jensen. "They're dangerous, and the prophesies are fucking useless, and people die."

"Can't you go?" asks Colin.

"I'm not a camper."

"Yeah, but you're still a demigod. And maybe you're supposed to go. And I bet Jared wants you to go."

"It's three," says Jensen. "Jared got the prophesy, and the prophesy mentioned messengers--Danneel--and merrymaking--Chad. If another person goes, it'll just put everyone in more danger."

"Oh," says Colin.

Jensen thunks his head back against the tree. "Some people never get quests, you know. I figured, he's sixteen, he'll just be here and be safe." He turned his head slightly to make a face at Colin. "I should really not be complaining to you about this. You need to make friends your own age who aren't--me."

"No one wants to be my friend until I get claimed," says Colin. "And Danneel told me all about how you're in love with Jared and think he's too young for you, so I'm up to date with all your issues."

Jensen laughs. "Thanks for that reality check, Colin."

"Any time."

Jared and Danneel and Chad are ready to leave by that night--they've got a beat-up car that Danneel's girlfriend Gen in Hephaestus fixed up for them and some kind of really ambiguous prophesy to go by--and Misha throws some big party to send them off.

Jensen gets through the whole thing and waits until Jared is getting into the car before he grabs him by the shirt and gives him a kiss that lasts long enough that Gen covers Colin's eyes.

"You better fucking come back alive," Jensen tells Jared. "Or I am going to come down to the Underworld and kick your fucking ass."

"See you in a few days," Jared says, grinning.

When Jensen comes back, what seems like the entire camp breaks out into applause, and Jensen just grumbles, "Oh, shut up."

Colin smiles. "He'll be back before you know it."

Jensen ruffles his hair. "You shut up too." But he's still smiling, so Colin joins Gen in a rousing round of "Jared and Jensen, sitting in a tree."

He really likes camp.
