So the thing is, there is a fairly good chance that that FF8 AU I am only sort of writing will forever remain vague collections of scenes. Therefore, here's a post with information about FF8. Also so you can picture everyone wearing really special outfits and stuff.
Squall Leonhart (Jensen Ackles)
Squall is the hero of the story. A quiet, introverted, ill-tempered orphan, Squall lives at Balamb Garden, which is pretty much a mercenary school. In the beginning of the game, he graduates and becomes a full SeeD (mercenary) and is assigned to assist Rinoa Heartilly.
Rinoa Heartilly (Jared Padalecki)
Rinoa is a cheerful, confident girl who wants to liberate the town of Timber from Galbaldia/her dad. She has a faithful dog and the ability to make Squall feel again.
Seifer Almasy (Chad Michael Murray)
Seifer is Squall's eternal rival, and Rinoa's ex-boyfriend. A brash, somewhat cruel boy, he enjoys picking on other students and asserting his authority. His childhood dream was to be a knight, a hero, and he allies himself with a rising evil sorceress in order to achieve this. Also, he's into prison bondage.
Quistis Trepe (Danneel Harris)
Quistis is Squall's genius instructor at the Garden. Because of her youth (only a year older than her students), there are doubts from her superiors about her fitness to teach. She spends most of her time being a total badass, and is so hot she has groupies.
Zell Dincht (Aldis Hodge)
Zell is a hot-headed fighter, enthusiastic and not particularly popular. He hits things with his fists until they die. He loves hot dogs a lot.
Selphie Tilmitt (Misha Collins)
Selphie believes in love and peace for everyone. She's perky and excitable and uses nunchucks, which is super awesome.
Irvine Kinneas (Chris Kane)
Irvine is a cowboy sniper. I honestly don't know what else to say here.
SO Final Fantasy VIII is the story of these seven mercenaries and the girl who hires them. The plot is, I will not lie, somewhat incoherent--honestly, part of it is that EVERYONE BUT RINOA was at an orphanage together but magical monsters that live in their brains made them forget about this. Which was FAIRLY SPECIAL but man one time I read this awesome genderswap retelling where the monsters eating the memories was done really well and man that thing was epic I wish it hadn't disappeared from the internet.
ANYWAY!
Pretty much, there is this evil nation called Galbaldia, which has allied themselves with the Sorceress Edea. I don't think it's ever explained what exactly a Sorceress is, because everyone can use magic. I DUNNO THEY HAVE SPECIAL MAGIC POWERS and she is evil and shit and Squall and company try to kill her but fail. Also periodically they are being sent into magical journeys where they live in some other dudes' heads. I'm not kidding. You get sent into Laguna Liore's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) head and experience his romance with this singer, and then through various other events like getting a girlfriend and becoming the leader of a country. TRUE STORY.
(sidenote: when we first played this game my brother was like I THINK LAGUNA IS SQUALL'S FATHER and I was like NO HE ISN'T SHUT UP YOU SUCK. My bad, Niko, you were right.)
Then, like, TONS OF CRAZY SHIT HAPPENS. I am reading the summary of this game on wikipedia and it always seems so much more coherent when I play it. Like, the Garden starts flying! Everyone travels into space! The final boss replaces all her c's with k's! TIME TRAVEL. EVERYONE WAS TOGETHER IN THE ORPHANAGE AND FORGOT.
I'm gonna be ignoring a lot of this craziness and trying to make it coherent. SO DON'T BE DISAPPOINTED BY THE LACK OF INCOHERENT TIME TRAVEL that's my bad.
Also, I'm posting my Big Bang on Tuesday, FYI.
