FYI: From what I have seen, Sandy McCoy, Danneel Harris, and Genevieve Cortese are all lovely girls. And even if they were not, they are human beings who are deserving of the same respect as everyone else on the planet. I think Jensen and Danneel are a totally awesome couple and would be delighted if they got married. If this is not your opinion, that's fine. But I don't like girlfriend-bashing, and I don't want it on this journal. Jared/Jensen is something I like to write, not something I think is real.
That said, this is a fic about Jensen breaking away from the evil Supernatural PR machine that tries to keep him pretending to be gay and becoming loud and proud about his love for his girlfriend.
Clearly, it is not for everyone.
Their Love Is So Pure
Jensen/Danneel, PG, 777 words
Jensen had had a lot of jobs, working with a lot of attractive guys, most of whom he liked.
That said, none of them came close to being as fucked up as Supernatural.
*
It started with being introduced to Jared, but only in the sense that, if he'd never met Jared, none of this would have happened, probably.
"So," Jared said, big grin, dimples, huge hand wrapping around Jensen's, "I'm gonna be your little brother."
Jensen looked him up and down, laughed. "Dude, casting fail. I don't think you're anyone's little brother."
Jared laughed, sharp and surprised. "You'd be surprised. My brother? He's a giant, man."
So, yeah, Jensen always liked Jared.
*
It wasn't until the Paley Festival that things got, well, weird.
"Here's the thing, boys," said McG. "Your fans are mostly girls."
Jared and Jensen exchanged a look.
"Really," said Jared.
"I can't believe no one told us," Jensen deadpanned.
"These girl fans, they really like the idea of you two together. Like, together together."
Jared considered this. "That would be pretty hot."
Jensen elbowed him in the ribs. "I could do so much better, asshole."
McG grinned magnanimously. "See? This is exactly what I'm talking about."
"My asshole?" asks Jared.
"The two of you just need to--act gay."
"What?"
"Play it up a little. Pretty much just be yourselves. Touch a lot. Maybe make some jokes about making out."
Jared raised his eyebrows at Jensen; Jensen tilted his head and raised one shoulder.
"What's the harm?" said Jared.
*
"This doesn't even make fucking sense," said Jensen.
"What?" asked Jared, looking up from Madden with an expression of shock and confusion. "Are you saying our pretend gay love is illogical? Man, you're breaking my heart."
"You have a girlfriend. You're allowed to be seen with her in public."
"Maybe that's because I'm better than you," said Jared. "Or Sandy's better than Danneel. Or both. Do you think we need to have a couple-off?"
"I'm not allowed to mention her in public," Jensen grumbled. "How am I supposed to have a couple-off?"
"We do it in the privacy of our own home."
Jensen groaned and leaned his head against the back of the couch. "Doing it in the privacy of our own home is exactly my problem."
"Aww, honey, are you saying I'm sexually unsatisfying?"
Jensen gave him the finger. "I fucking hate my contract."
Jared cocked his head, looked at Jensen seriously. "I'm sorry, man. I really like her, you know. She seems awesome."
Jensen sighed. "Just doesn't seem fair, you know."
*
The writers' strike, as it turned out, was something of a blessing in disguise, as Jensen got tons of time not doing Supernatural, not appearing in public with Jared, and not having to pretend he wasn't totally in love with his girlfriend.
Everything pretty much ruled until around May, in fact. In May, McG called and said Jensen was moving in with Jared.
"What?"
"Come on, you guys are already together all the time."
"I don't get to pick where I fucking live anymore?"
"No," said McG shortly.
"Your dogs are gonna drool all over my fucking life," said Jensen as soon as Jared picked up.
"Sandy's breaking up with me," said Jared.
Jensen swallowed. "What? Why?"
"Because she's tired of our lives being ruled by fucking PR. She's getting out of showbiz for a while, and that means--"
"They didn't make you, though?" asked Jensen.
"No."
"Thank god," he breathed. "I was going to punch McG in his fucking face."
Jared laughed shakily. "My hero."
*
So Jensen was, as far as he was concerned, justifiably pissed.
"Can they fire me with a year left?" he asked.
"It can be all me all the time," said Jared. "Sam, 24/7."
"I could help," said Misha.
"Help get Jensen fired or be my new costar?" asked Jared.
"Both," said Misha.
"You guys just want to get paid more," said Jensen.
"Bitch, whatever," said Jared. "I already get paid more than you."
*
The first time Jensen actually talked about Danneel in public, he spent an hour afterward grinning so wide he was sure his face was going to start bleeding.
*
"So," said Danneel, leaning into his arm in their hotel in Birmingham, "there a reason you're suddenly risking your whole maybe-gay rep for me?"
Jensen shrugged, blushed. "I love you," he said.
"Oh," she said, grinning at him. "That."
"It's just another year," he said. "Then I was thinking after I could propose."
"Yeah?"
He kissed her on the temple. "I dunno. Kind of worried she'd shoot me down."
"Trust me," said Danneel, grinning up at him. "She wouldn't."
