Fic for [livejournal.com profile] mercuryblue144! Right Where I Belong, some Jared POV.

Jared gets to Jensen's common room expecting to find Jensen already studying on his favorite couch--which, unsurprisingly, is Jared's favorite couch too, given it's soft and comfortable and not quite big enough for two boys their size, forcing them to sit very close together--and he's surprised when he's nowhere to be found.

"Have you seen Jensen around?" he asks Mr. Head, who always seems to be on duty when he's embarrassing himself in Jensen's common room.

"Jensen? Not this evening, no."

Jared looks around. "Okay. Um--he's in 215, is that--which way is that?"

Mr. Head looks amused. "Up the staircase on your left. Second floor. Do you have a project?"

Jared flushes. "Yeah," he says. It's a lot less pathetic than no, I just want to see him all the time.

He heads up the stairs, still a little confused--they always meet in the library at nine, and it's only a little past. Jared was late. Maybe Jensen's upset with him.

The door to 215 is open, and Jensen's stretched out on his bed, reading. He's not wearing shoes. Jared has no idea why he notices this, or why it makes him feel warm and fuzzy all over, but it's like seeing a side of Jensen no one else gets. A side Jared wants for himself.

"There you are!" he says, watching Jensen glance up at him, flushing a little. "I was looking for you in the common room.

"I wanted a little more quiet," says Jensen. His voice is off, like maybe he wants to be alone. Jared droops.

"Is everything all right?" he asks. "I can go if you--"

"I know," says Jensen, cutting him off.

"Know what?" asks Jared.

"I overheard you and Danneel talking," Jensen says, looking away from Jared, like he did a terrible thing. "Earlier today, when I was on my way back."

Jared instantly recalls the conversation--Danneel wanted him to tell Jensen who he really was. Jared wants to as well, thinks about it all the time, but he can't yet. "Oh," he says, feeling relieved and a little hopeful. Maybe Jensen figured it out. "You--"

"Yes. And I understand why you didn't tell me, I just--" Jensen laughs sadly. "I never thought about you getting married, I needed to--"

"Married?" asks Jared, totally confused. "What?"

"You're engaged to Danneel," says Jensen slowly, like he doesn't like saying it.

"No," says Jared, instant and insistent. "I'm not--that's--" he laughs, shakes his head. "I'm not engaged to Danneel. I can't--I can't tell you the truth," he admits. "I want to, but--I need a few days to make sure of a few things, and--Jensen, you know, right?" He thought Jensen must realize how Jared felt about him. He thought they were just going slow. He wasn't sure Jensen was ready.

And Jared wants Jensen to know who he really is first.

"Know what?" asks Jensen. He really doesn't loo sure.

"I wouldn't--I'm not--I'm not engaged to Danneel when I--" he gives up and just leans in to kiss Jensen.

It's perfect. Jensen makes this tiny noise, but then he's kissing Jared back, pulling him closer, and Jensen is pulling him back toward the bed, Jared following helplessly. He thought Jensen felt the same, but it's an unexpected relief to know it.

They pull apart, Jensen pulling Jared down and Jared following until Jensen says, "Sam," sounding so happy and wondrous, and Jared's heart almost breaks on the sound. He's in love with Jensen, and Jensen doesn't even know his name.

Jared leans back, giving Jensen a shaky smile "I should really--" he licks his lips, sees Jensen track the movement. "I gotta go. Not because I--I really want to keep going, but I can't right now," he says. "So I should just. Go."

"Oh," says Jensen, disappointed and a little put out, clearly. "Yeah, it's--late?" It's not, really, but it's getting on toward curfew.

"Yeah," says Jared. "So I'll--" he starts, and can't help giving Jensen a kiss goodnight, which naturally turns into another long, involved kiss that Jared doesn't want to ever end.

There's a noise from the door and Jared jumps back, face flushing, to see Jensen's roommate, Misha Collins.

"Jensen," he says, "Lord Winchester. How nice to see you."

"Hi, Misha," says Jensen, sounding just about as disappointed as Jared feels.

"I hate to interrupt, but I did want to get some sleep."

"No," says Jared, with an awkward cough. "I was just going." He smiles sheepishly at Jensen. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"See you tomorrow," Jensen echoes, and Jared grins.

His father can disown him, if he wants. Hell, his father might have to, given Jared is hopelessly in love with a nobody from Genovia. But that's okay. Because Jensen wants him too, and tomorrow, Jared is going to tell him the truth.

And, if that goes well, probably propose. He never cared about being prince that much anyway.

Jared grins the whole way back to his room.
